Contact Lenses

Contact Lens Specialists

Contact lens fittings require special skills to ensure the most comfortable results and the clearest vision. At Odyssey Opticians, we provide patients with advanced lens fitting services for custom solutions and optimal results. Unlike eyeglasses that rest in front of the eyes, contact lenses are placed directly on the surface of the eyes, and proper measurements and other assessments are required to ensure they fit comfortably and provide the proper correction for the needs of each patient. In addition to a standard medical eye exam, a contact lens fitting includes evaluations and measurements of the surface portion of the center of your eye, or the cornea, which is located over the pupil. Contact lenses rest on the cornea, and very precise measurements are needed to ensure lenses fit properly in order to avoid irritating the cornea, which can become damaged over time when lenses are not properly fitted.

How does a contact lens fitting differ from a fitting for eyeglasses?

In addition to contact lenses that correct for refractive vision issues like nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism, there are special lenses that can be used to address specific vision needs, including some differences in the eye anatomy. The comprehensive eye exam prior to contact lens fitting will determine if specialty lenses are necessary for optimal vision.
